"I never expected a makeup bag to spark so many conversations."
Over the past few years, I've spoken with hundreds of customers about the way they travel, get ready each morning and organise their beauty products.
They've included businesswomen, makeup artists, flight attendants, senior executives and retirees.
In fact, one of my very first customers was a retiree who simply wanted something beautiful to travel with for herself. She purchased our Ultimate Set in Pink.
Some travelled overseas regularly.
Others were busy mums helping their daughters through the teenage years, graduations and weddings.
Despite their different lifestyles, they all shared surprisingly similar frustrations.
Makeup cases that didn't stand the test of time.
Smashed powders.
Cases that constantly fell over and wouldn't stay upright.
Eyeliners disappearing into the bottom of the bag.
Beautiful cosmetic cases that looked lovely online but became impossible to use once they were full. Too rigid. Too soft. No personality.
It made me realise something.
The problem wasn't that women owned too many beauty products.
The problem was that nobody had really redesigned the makeup bag around how women actually use one.
It All Started With One Mother's Day Gift
The idea for Estetika wasn't born in a boardroom.
It started with my youngest daughter, Nina.
She wanted to buy me a beautiful makeup bag for Mother's Day, but everything we found felt like a compromise. It was either practical but uninspiring, or beautiful but poorly designed.
That simple search became a conversation.
Could we create something that women would genuinely love using every day?
Something that looked beautiful sitting on a bathroom vanity or in a luxury hotel, but also worked as hard as the women carrying it.
That conversation became the beginning of Estetika.

My Search for the Perfect Makeup Bag
Before starting Estetika, I'd spent decades travelling for work and working in design. I was constantly packing, unpacking and living out of beauty cases in hotels and airports.
I kept buying makeup bags, hoping the next one would finally be "the one."
It never was.
They were either beautiful but impractical, or practical but looked like something you'd find in a medical kit.
I wanted something elegant enough to leave sitting on a hotel vanity, yet organised enough that I could find everything in seconds.
The Best Product Feedback Came From a Phone Call
After launching Estetika, I made a decision that surprised a lot of people.
I started calling my customers.
If they answered, I thanked them personally.
If they didn't, I'd send them a text message introducing myself and thanking them for supporting my small business.
Those conversations gave me hope.
But more importantly, they gave me insight.
One customer came back and purchased several more makeup bags for her daughter's wedding so every bridesmaid could receive one.
One asked if we could add on a chain strap for the MINEE makeup bag and there it is.
Another customer told me she split her time between homes in Australia and overseas, so she wanted a travel makeup bag permanently packed in each location.
Another wanted something that could safely store thousands of dollars' worth of skincare and makeup.
A makeup artist explained that her biggest frustration wasn't the size of her makeup bag. She wanted something beautiful, organised and professional enough to take with her to every client.
Each conversation reminded me that every woman uses her beauty products differently.
But they all wanted the same thing.
To feel organised.
Prepared.
And to enjoy the experience of getting ready.
Listening Is the Best Design Tool
Building Estetika has taught me that good design doesn't begin with a sketch.
It begins with listening.
Every email.
Every review.
Every conversation.
Every suggestion.
They have all shaped the products we create today.
And they'll continue shaping every product we design in the future.
Because the best ideas rarely come from a drawing board.
They come from the women who use them every day.
If you've ever found yourself searching for a makeup bag that feels as beautiful as it is practical, I hope these conversations remind you that thoughtful design begins by listening to the people who use it.
Thank you to every customer who has answered my calls, replied to my texts, shared your stories and trusted Estetika to be part of your journey.
You have helped shape this brand more than you know.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a good makeup bag?
A good makeup bag should protect your products, keep you organised, be easy to clean and suit the way you travel or get ready each day. Thoughtful design is often about removing the little frustrations that women experience every day.
What is the best makeup bag for travel?
The best travel makeup bag is one that keeps your products organised, protects delicate items and makes everything easy to find. A structured makeup bag that opens wide can make packing and getting ready much easier, whether you're travelling for work or leisure.
Why do makeup bags become messy?
Many traditional makeup bags have one large compartment where products fall to the bottom, making them difficult to find. Choosing a well-designed makeup organiser with dedicated storage helps keep everything in place.
How do I stop my makeup breaking while travelling?
Use a structured makeup bag that protects your products, avoid overfilling it, and keep fragile items secure. Packing your beauty products thoughtfully can help prevent broken powders and leaking bottles.
